The 60th Annual Day of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, held on January 15, 2026, was a grand occasion, presided over by the Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Nazareth Fernandes, Superior General, Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier, in the august presence of the management, guests, alumni, staff and students.
The Administrator, Rev. Fr. Antonio Salema, graciously welcomed the Chief Guest, dignitaries and the audience. Prof. Filipe Rodrigues e Melo, vice principal, introduced the Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Nazareth Fernandes. The Officiating Principal, Ms Ursula Barreto, presented the Annual Report of the college, which highlighted all the major accolades and milestones achieved by the students during the academic year 2024-25.
The Parent-Teacher Association and the Alumni Association felicitated the retired faculty of the Institution. The occasion evoked a sense of nostalgia as many former teaching and non-teaching staff members gathered to share the memorable moment.
During the Award Ceremony, the alumni and the students of the college were felicitated for their noteworthy achievements in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Nazareth Fernandes, cited the example of tennis icon Novak Djokovic to highlight that achievement and privilege come with a deep sense of responsibility. He remarked that privilege should never lead to complacency and that true legacy is defined by the lives one touches. Encouraging students to share their blessings and abilities with others, he urged them to remain noble in thought, word, and deed.
The college’s annual day showcased the talented skills of the students. The annual day concluded with a vote of thanks by the General Secretary of the Students Council, Mr Akhil Gurav, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, the programme co-ordinator, Prof. Maria Fonseca and all attendees.
