On the 28th of September 2024, the teaching and non-teaching staff of St. John of the Cross High School participated in a one-day workshop organized by the Outreach Cell of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa. The workshop, coordinated by Fr. Ramiro Luis and his team, commenced with a warm welcome by the Principal, Ms Ursula Barretto that set a positive tone for the day.
The ice-breaking activity, a balloon reality game, brought unexpected excitement as participants had to protect their balloons in a fun and engaging challenge. This game emphasized teamwork and spontaneity.
Fr. Tony Salema then shared valuable insights on how to win over students by focusing on the little things that make a big difference in their lives. His personal experiences resonated deeply with the audience, providing practical tips for classroom engagement.
Following this, the participants were given a campus tour, where Fr. Ramiro provided a briefing about the college’s facilities and its vision. Dr. Oscar Braganza D’Mello, another key speaker, presented an enriching session focusing on the three C’s: Communication, Conversation, and Connection. He emphasized how these elements, when infused with love, can nurture young geniuses. He also stressed the importance of self-belief as a foundational quality for both teachers and students.
After this insightful talk, participants were treated to a live music presentation by the talented students of St. Xavier’s College, which was followed by an interactive action song session led by Mr. Worrel D’Souza. The session invigorated the group and seamlessly transitioned into a team-building activity.
After the sumptuous meal, the group was taken for a campus walk. The staff was led by Ms Vailarose Fernandes who helped them explore the Audio and Visual studios of the college . The staff were then divided into groups of five and interviewed by students from the Mass Communication department. These interviews allowed teachers to reflect on their teaching experiences and share what legacy they believe students should carry forward.
The day concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Tr. Perpetua Avileli, and the session officially ended at 4:15 p.m. A special treat followed, as the college band played a selection of favorite songs exclusively for the teachers, offering an entertaining and relaxing close to the event.
This workshop proved to be an enriching and memorable experience for the staff of St. John of the Cross High School. The teachers are eagerly looking forward to more such engaging sessions.
