A few words of service at Shanti Avedna Sadan, Loutulim

Shanti Avedna Sadan is a palliative care centre for terminally ill cancer patients. It was started in the year 1986 by Dr. L.J. de Souza, Surgeon and Oncologist. He is still the managing Trustee of Shanti Avedna Sadan.  For 38 grace-filled years, we have been instruments of God’s compassion, offering loving care, comfort and hope to countless souls journeying through life’s final stages.

This Institution is for the care of the advanced and terminally ill Cancer patients. For every patient, Shanti Avedna Sadan is a home away from home, a home where there is no pain but peace dwells.

We accept all patients without any differentiation of cast, creed and nationality.

Our Mission:  We serve with love the terminally ill cancer patients.

Our Motto:  “Add life to days and not days to life.” We receive a fully broken person, broken physically, mentally, psychologically and socially.  We assist the patient in controlling the pain by giving the needed medications. We listen to them and become part of their suffering and make them know that there is someone to care for them and thus we make the patient comfortable.

A few touching incident:
1. Farewell party of a young man: A young man, 28 years old was admitted in Goa Shanti Avedna Sadan with blood cancer. He knew his days are counted. So, he wanted a farewell party on the last day of his life.  He informed his friends his last wish.  His friends were too happy to organise a farewell party for him.  His parents, brothers and sisters were also invited for the party.  So too most of his friends.

2. The patient, a highly qualified doctor of Medicine, suffering from breast cancer was brought to Shanti Avedna Sadan.  She was not only a doctor, but a multi-talented person who wanted to teach others all her skills so that she can ‘live on in others.’ She preponed her 60th birthday and celebrated with all her friends before she bid farewell to this world

They have shown that their life is a celebration.

We remain ever willing to extend our care to cancer patients who are weary and broken, offering them comfort, dignity and the healing touch of compassion.
