Nine Ordained to the Diaconate at Rachol Seminary

On Tuesday, 21st April 2026, Rachol Seminary celebrated a special moment as nine seminarians were ordained to the Holy Order of the Diaconate. The Mass began at 9:30 AM and was presided over by Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão. Fr. Nelson Sequeira served as Liturgical Animator and the Santa Cecilia Choir, led by Fr. Mathew Rebello, beautifully led the singing. Forty-five priests, who had been part of the deacons’ formation journey, were also present. The theme for the day was “Kristant Rigun Mogache Porgottnar Zaum-ia” – “Abiding in Christ, Proclaimers of Love.”

The nine newly ordained Deacons for the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman are: Nyron Naik (Nuvem), Roshel Fernandes (Siolim), Standly Colaco (Nuvem), Hilario De Lima (Aldona), Kennedy Mascarenhas (Navelim), Ryan Mascarenhas (Loutolim), Jayson Colaco (Nuvem), Lawrence Vaz (Sao Pedro), and Caron Cardozo (Varca).

In his homily, Cardinal Ferrão encouraged the new deacons to be men of prayer and humble service, and to see the face of Jesus in everyone they meet, especially those who are suffering.

After Mass, Deacon Hilario De Lima gave a vote of thanks, followed by a blessing from Cardinal Ferrão and group photos. A joyful fellowship programme followed in the Seminary Auditorium, where seminarians organized games for the new deacons. Sem. Leo Fernandes raised a toast and the Rector, Rev. Dr. Donato Rodrigues offered his message. In his message the Rector reminded the Deacons that the seminary had been their home and that everything they received here, be it the prayers, the discipline, the friendships and the formation, was meant to be carried into their ministry. He further assured them of continued prayers and support on their journey towards the priesthood. The day then ended with everyone sitting down together for a festive meal.
