The Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media (DCSCM), Goa, conducted media education sessions for Confirmation students of Majorda Parish on 9th August, Canaguinim Parish on 16th September, for Youth of Bastora Parish on 12th July and for adults at Corgao Parish on 4th September.
Fr. Tadeu D’Silva SFX,the parish priest of Canaguinim Parish, Fr. Isidorio Fernandes, Parish Priest of Majorda Parish, Fr. Andrew Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of Bastora Parish and Fr. Clifford Castelinho, Parish Priest of Corgao Parish, invited Fr. Barry Cardozo, the Director of Diocesan Centre for Social communications media to conduct a media education session on the safe usage of Social media,in their parish. This pastoral initiative stemmed from the need to guide teenagers and adults in the safe usage of social media so that they may avoid being victims of cyber crime and may use social media positively.
At St. Francis Xavier Parish,Corgao,the media education session was for adults and was conducted after a Novena mass on 4th September,2026.
Whereas Fr. Andrew Mascarenhas invited Fr. Barry to give a session for youth of Bastora Parish. Besides Social Media this session also included some special inputs on the safe and responsible usage of Artificial Intelligence.
Fr. Barry Cardozo, in his session, brought out the importance of social media, how to use it positively and safely and highlighted some measures one could take to avoid vulnerability. He also explained different types of social media addictions and how to come out of it. A section was dedicated to cybercrime and action one could take against it. The session ended by emphasising one’s responsibility as a Christian while using the social media. He emphasised that as Christians it is important for us to give witness to Christ and Christian values while being online too and he gave some suggestions as to how to do it.
The sessions were well appreciated by students, Catechism teachers,lay faithful and priests. At Canaguinim Fr. Wilson Godad SFX, Assistant parish priest, thanked Fr. Barry for the informative session on Social media and expressed that such sessions are the need of the hour for teenagers and youth.
The Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media conducts such sessions in different Parishes for teenagers, Youth and adults.
