Golden Jubilee Convention of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in India 2022
The Catholic Charismatic Renewal in India will be celebrating its National Golden Jubilee in 2022. The first prayer group in the country met in Mumbai in February 1972. Subsequently teams were formed that went around preaching Life in the Spirit Seminars and retreats sowing the seeds of the Renewal in other states of India. With the spread of the renewal to different parts of the country, the first National Service Team (leadership structure) was formed in 1977 and the national magazine, Charisindia, began to be published in 1974. In September, 1996 the Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) officially granted recognition to the NCCRS as a National Catholic Organization, with all the privileges and responsibilities of such a body.
It was felt that the Golden Jubilee, being a time of special grace, should receive full attention by the Renewal in the regions and need a 5-year long preparation. Hence, commencement of preparations for the Golden Jubilee was launched at Goa in March 2018. As part of the preparations for the Golden Jubilee, the year 2020 was observed as the Year of Leadership Empowerment, 2021 as the Year of Family Empowerment and 2022 will be observed as the Year of Church Empowerment. As such the spirit of the Jubilee will continue till 2022.
Since the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in India is going to be a time of extraordinary grace which will conclude with a mega National Convention in May 2022 after a 5-year long preparation, The Holy Father has granted Plenary Indulgence to all those who participate in the Golden Jubilee Convention. The CCR Golden Jubilee Concluding Celebrations will be held on the virtual platform, from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 May 2022 (7 pm to 9.30 pm), due to the prevailing situation of the COVID – 19 pandemic in our country. The pre-recorded sessions will be uploaded on CHARIS INDIA YouTube and the links will be sent to all those who register. The Convention will be inaugurated by His Eminence Oswald Cardinal Gracias and His Excellency Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli will be the Chief Guest of the concluding Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The concluding celebrations of the Golden Jubilee Convention will be held from 7.30 pm to 9 pm on Sunday, 29 May 2022 and broadcast live through Shekinah News Television Channel, the links of which would be shared with the local television and internet channels.
