Altar server’s Day of Mapusa Deanery
On 30th August 2022, Mapusa Deanery organized Altarservers Day cum Football Tournament for Altar boys and Tie breaker for Altar girls belonging to Mapusa Deanery at Don Bosco Youth Welfare Centre, Para, Bardez Goa. The Program commenced with the welcome address of Fr. Alfi D’Cruz, altar servers animator of Mapusa deanery. Fr. Alfi appreciated all the altarservers who made time to attend this event. The event began with the Eucharistic celebration, the main celebrant Fr. Ramiro Luis, enchanted the altarservers with his beautiful homily and explaining to them what it means to be called by Jesus. He also told them the importance of altarservers meeting in nurturing once vocation. Fr. Wilfred and Fr. Willy sdb, along with Fr. Alfi concelebrated the mass. After the mass there were icebreakers and tea break which was followed by a session by Fr. Xavier Estebiero, VCDC Director and his team. The altarservers enjoyed participating in the session especially the quiz rounds conducted by Fr. Aleston Vaz. There after Fr. Clive Telles sdb provincial of Don Bosco also gave a session with religious background. After the heavy sessions and activities there was Lunch break, Fr. Peter Gama, Parish Priest of Para Church sponsored the delicious food by Ruby Caterers. The Second half of the day was out door on the football field. The Tournament started with the Tiebreaker for altar girls and the Altar Girls of Our Lady of Victory, Revora made their mark by winning the winners trophy and the runners up were the Altar Girls of Holy Family Church, Porvorim. Fr. Wilfred and Fr. Adrian handed over the trophies to the winning and runners up team respectively. The Football Tournament winners were Altar Boys of St. Anne’s Church Para and the runners up were Altar Boys of Holy Family Church, Porvorim. Fr. Caetano Fernandes, the dean of Mapusa Deanery and Fr. Peter Gama and Fr. Adrian Pinto gave the trophies to the winners and the runner up respectively. Ms. Maymol Rocky, Indian former footballer and football coach gave the prizes as follows; the Best Player was awarded to Jezneel Gonsalves from Holy Family, Porvorim. The Best Goal Keeper was awarded to Xavier Fernandes and Best Defender to Caitan Fernandes both from St. Anne, Parra. The audience kept the football fever till the end of the games and Fr. Wilfred gave the vote of thanks and program ended sharp at 4.30 p.m. The Parish priest and the chaplain along with their altarservers animators attended this event. There were all together 215 participants and the day was indeed a successful one.
