The Crescendo Community Centre for Music at St. Xavier’s campus,Mapusa celebrated its 8th Annual Day with a grand event attended by students, parents, faculty, and esteemed guests. The celebration highlighted the centre’s commitment to nurturing musical talent and providing a platform for young musicians to showcase their skills.
The event was graced by the presence of Rev. Fr. Rolland Lin Fernandes, a passionate musician, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, Rev. Fr. Fernandes commended the students for their dedication and musical abilities. He also expressed deep gratitude towards the parents for nurturing and supporting their children’s talents, thereby contributing to the cultural richness of the community.
The program was eloquently compared by Mr. Albert and Ms. Fatima, who guided the event with grace and poise, ensuring a smooth flow of activities and maintaining the audience’s engagement throughout. The audience enjoyed every piece presented, showcasing the exceptional talent nurtured at the centre.
As a highlight of the event, meritorious students were recognized and awarded for their exceptional achievements in music. These awards served as a testament to the hard work and perseverance of the students, and the support provided by their mentors and families. An exceptional student, Sybil Marie Falleiro, was specially awarded for her dedication.
The programme featured a rich repertoire of music, prepared by the dedicated music teachers of the school: Velerio Mascarenhas, Gary Coutinho, Sigmund Dias, Gail Coutinho, Janice Parras, Nolvert Cota, and Stalin D’Sa. Some of the pieces performed included La Paloma by Sebastian Yradier, arranged by Robert Longfield, Abide with Me by William Monk and Henry Lyte, Gavotte by François J. Gossec, Rude by Magic!, Bittersweet Symphony arranged by M. Freeman, The Leaving of Liverpool arranged by Jones, Please Stay and Chihuahua by Tom Gerou, Thais Meditation by J. Massenet, Cavatina by Stanley Myers arranged by John Williams, and Concert for Two Violins by Johann Sebastian Bach. Additionally, the traditional Goan piece Tambdem Roza by F.X. Oliveira and a Mash up of Goan melodies added a local touch to the programme.
Mrs. Eweny Saldanha, the animator of the school, warmly welcomed the gathering and expressed her joy and pride in the students’ accomplishments. Following the performances and awards, Mr. Velerio Mascarenhas proposed a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of everyone who contributed to the success of the event, including the organizers, participants, and audience.
