Diocesan Widows’ Groups (VATT) Celebrate Feast of Patron Saint

The Diocesan Widows met in a prayerful and uplifting program to celebrate the Feast of their Patron Saint Paula of Rome. Over 350 Widows of 24 Parishes of Goa, linked to the Central Diocesan Body, met at Navelim Parish in a true spirit of fellowship.

The day began with a Eucharistic Celebration by the Ecclesiastical Adviser Fr.Cipriano da Silva and the Parish Priest of Navelim Fr.Gabriel Coutinho. In his welcome address, Fr.Coutinho emphasized the Church’s deep concern for Widows. Through his warm words of encouragement, he stated that Widows hold a cherished place in the Parish Community .

Fr.Cipriano’s homily highlighted St.Paula’s qualities of Perseverance, Patience, Acceptance of God’s Will, her Understanding of Widowhood, her Love of God and adjustment to challenges of day to day life. He added that her love for the Word of God and service to other women is a great example of how to move on in life.

A handbook containing an explanation of the Logo, the acronym VATT, Archbishop’s and Ecclesiastical Adviser’s messages, plan of activities, guidelines for opening new groups, conduct of meetings and pictures of programs organized by various Widows’ (VATT) groups was released on the occasion.

The gathering was further enriched through stage items presented by different Parish groups focusing on the talents of our Widows. The function also provided ample opportunity for interaction through icebreakers, music, dance and a fellowship lunch.

The gathering stood as a gentle yet powerful reminder that the Church in Goa walks closely with its Widows, offering care, dignity and support while nurturing faith and hope in their lives.

My personal message to our ‘Women of Hope’ is – ‘Your story did not end with loss. Love still surrounds you and your life still holds purpose.’
