Duler Parish Families ‘Disconnect to Connect’ for Jubilee of Families

The Parish of St. Francis Xavier, Duler, recently marked a special occasion, celebrating Family Apostolate Sunday and the Jubilee of Families on 31st August 2025. The event, which coincided with the Diocesan Day dedicated for the same purpose, brought together parishioners of all ages for a day of spiritual reflection, practical guidance, and joyful fellowship.

The day’s events began with a beautiful Liturgy, animated by members of the Family Apostolate Animation Team. The group used three skits to bring the day’s Gospel to life, and to drive home the powerful message of seeking greatness in ‘being’ rather than ‘having’; in relationships of love and humble service rather than in slavish possessions, positions or things.

Following the largely attended service, the focus shifted to the modern-day challenge of balancing work and family life. Prof. Vijay and Ulene Borges, a couple from Curtorim and members of the MFC, Margao, led an engaging session on the topic. They shared their personal journey of raising six children, emphasizing how they managed to balance their own work and family responsibilities through a system of discipline, clear role distribution, and open communication.

The couple highlighted the crucial importance of providing emotional and psychological support within the family, especially in today’s fast-paced world. They shared that children can also be a source of support for their parents when they feel their views are sufficiently valued and their opinions are duly considered in family decisions.

After the insightful session, the atmosphere lightened with a series of Team and Partner games. Laughter and enthusiasm filled the air as both young and old participated in the fun activities. The celebrations continued with the cutting of a Jubilee Cake and a simple shared lunch, offering a chance for light banter and community fellowship.

To conclude the day’s events, the Family Apostolate Animation Team encouraged all parish families to continue the spirit of connection by participating in a two-hour digital detox. The suggestion was to “Disconnect from their Devices to Connect with their Family” through a shared meal, a game, an outing, or any other mutually enjoyable activity.

The Parish Priest, Fr. Anthony Fernandes, commended the efforts of the Family Apostolate Animation Team, praising the team for organizing a meaningful and apt program that successfully integrated both, formation and fellowship. He noted that their vigorous efforts are a clear step toward their mission of building Happy, Healthy, and Holy Families.
