The parishioners of Anjuna came together in deep joy and gratitude to celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady, united with Mother’s Day, at St. Michael Church, Anjuna and at Our Lady of Health Chapel, Mazal vaddo, Anjuna. The occasion was marked with novenas, liturgies, cultural programmes, and community activities, creating a memorable expression of faith, love, and family spirit.
Nine Days of Preparation: At St. Michael’s, BECs/Somudais led the novenas, beginning each evening with the rosary. Children offered flowers in procession, participated in the liturgy, and enjoyed treats generously sponsored by parishioners. The Confirmation group prepared Prayers of the Faithful, while various choirs enriched the liturgy with song. At Saude Chapel, novenas were animated by inspiring sermons. Children were actively engaged with questions on the Gospel and Mary’s life, joyfully offering flowers each day.
Mothers’ Day Expressions: At St. Michael’s, catechism students honoured mothers through creative works – cards, photo frames, and models inspired by St. Carlo Acutis’ Eucharistic devotion. At Saude, joyful competitions of sweet dishes, flower arrangements, skits, songs, and displays of cards and saintly quotes highlighted children’s gratitude and creativity.
Feast Day Celebrations: The Solemn Eucharist was held at both places in the presence of Fr.Santiago Fernandes sfx Parish Priest, Fr.Abel Fernandes sfx Asst. to the Parish Priest, Fr. Antonio Vas and Fr. Joaquim Fernandes sfx Chaplain. This was followed by cultural programmes, skits, mime, devotional dances, and songs, culminating in the honouring of new mothers with cake-cutting ceremonies, symbols of unity and blessing.
Gratitude: Special thanks were extended to the Parish Catechetical Association, Catechists, BECs/Somudais, families, and parishioners by Fr. Santiago Fernandes and Mr. Michael D’Souza. Above all, the parish thanked Our Blessed Mother for uniting Anjuna in faith, love, and service.
Report prepared by Mrs. Eudociana Fernandes ( Catechist) and Adv. Joslyn D’Souza (Catechetical Co-ordinator) of St. Michael’s Church, Anjuna.
