The Diocese of Sindhudurg, created in 2005, became a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman a year later. Ecclesiastically, the districts of Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri were part of this Archdiocese until 1953, when they were included in the Diocese of Poona.  They were formed into the Diocese of Sindhudurg in 2005, upon the creation of the new Diocese.
