The Diocesan Youth Centre, Goa, marked the beginning of the Jubilee Year with the Jubilee Cup 2025, kicking off on 26th January 2025. Boys’ and girls’ teams from each of the 19 deaneries across Goa participated in this grand tournament, having qualified through their respective deanery-level competitions. While the boys competed in a 5-a-side Futsal tournament, the girls participated in a 3-a-side Tie-Breaker shootout held at the Don Bosco Futsal Turf, Panjim.
At the inaugural ceremony the deanery captains marched onto the court carrying their respective deanery flags, centred around the DYC flag carried by the Director of DYC, Fr. Blaise Lobo. A unique prayer service was held, where all participants held a green ribbon, symbolizing hope, unity, and the boundless potential of young minds working together for a brighter future through sports. The Chief Guest, Mr. Ryan, and the Guest of Honour, Fr. Pio Almeida, presented the Jubilee Cups for both the boys’ and girls’ tournaments on the field. Master Ryan delivered an inspiring speech, while Fr. Pio declared the tournament open with the first kick.
The Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Simiao Purificação Fernandes, graced the tournament with his presence and motivated the youth with his words of wisdom at the concluding ceremony. An exhibition match was held between the Young Priests and the Youth before the finals, with the Youth team emerging victorious.
For the girls’ final, Margao Deanery (Navelim Parish) emerged victorious against Pernem Deanery (Arambol Parish). The tournament concluded with the boys’ final where Margao Deanery (Borda Chapel) crowned themselves as the Jubilee Cup Champions against Chinchinim Deanery (Chinchinim Parish). Individual Awards were begged by Joylex (Margao Deanery, Borda Chapel) as the Best Goalkeeper and Shario (Chinchinim Deanery, Chinchinim Parish) as the Best Player.
The Jubilee Cup 2025 was coordinated by Joyston Fernandes and Elvinston Pereira of the DYC Team, made sure that the Jubilee Cup 2025 was a resounding success, fostering sportsmanship, unity, friendship and youth empowerment, making it a memorable event for all participants.
