The book “100 Tips for Career Choices and Success in Life” by the Salesian Priest Raj Mariasusai was released at Pauline Book and Media Centre, Panjim, on 5 May. Ms Marilia Esteves, Headmistress of People\’s High School.released the book. Published by Pauline Publications, the book speaks about job opportunities, career prospects and the ways to achieve them for a better personal life and betterment of society. In the book we find discussions on questions from students that deal with how to handle situations in a particular career.
According to the author, Within ourselves, we have the necessary strength to find our own destiny, and career is a call within and the choice is each one’s.
The author also explains the difference between a Career and a Job.
A job is defined as \”a piece of work, especially, a specific task done as part of the routine of one\’s occupation or for an agreed monetary gain.\”
A career is \”an occupation or profession, especially one requiring special training followed as one\’s lifework.\”
A job, Fr Mariasusai says, is simply a short term pursuit, but a career is a long- term purpose. One can change the position easily , but changing the career would pose many difficulties.
The book is an apt guide for students to acqurie some background knowledge about various types of studies they can pursue in different fields according to their aptitude. It would also help counsellors, parents and teachers to guide their wards.
The author has written from his vast experience in education, environment, media, youth and social development both in India and abroad.
