Novel student induction program at St. Xavier’s college welcomes freshers

The new academic year at St. Xavier’s College welcomed all First Year Undergraduate students through a novel Student Induction Programme (SIP). Blessings upon the staff and students were implored through a solemn Eucharistic celebration on the theme “ Abide in me”, which was presided over by the Auxilliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Goa, Most Rev Simiao Fernandes. The week long Student Induction Program was strategically designed to ensure a smooth transition into college life introducing students to institutional ethos, academic programs and life skills.

Freshers were warmly welcomed by the College Administrator Fr. Antonio Salema. The Officiating Principal, Ms. Ursula Barreto outlined the core objectives of the SIP: to know, to bond and to engage. She invited students to explore opportunities, be actively involved and enjoy learning the Xavier’s way.

During the six days of the program, students were introduced to a variety of interactive sessions. These included Sessions on Self-Awareness, Emotional Resilience, Universal Human Values, Health and Well-being, alongside peer-bonding activities through games, song and dance organised by seniors.

Orientation sessions were held to help students navigate courses under the National Education Policy (NEP), understand the Course Structure and the Examination System.

To strengthen baseline competencies, the program featured bridge sessions covering English Communication, Mathematics and Digital literacy. Students were introduced to the vibrant extracurricular landscape at St Xavier’s , activities for nurturing talent through cultural clubs, domain specific clubs, sports, NCC & NSS. Skill Development workshops on Effective Communication, Teamwork, Time Management, Stress Management, and Goal Setting further enriched the experience.

The SIP allowed students to connect with their mentors, counsellors and peers from day one. The program helped in fostering confidence, made students feel comfortable in the new environment and helped to inculcate a sense of belonging, ensuring that the new Xavierites are fully prepared to leverage the resources and opportunities awaiting them for college life at St Xavier’s.
