The vibrant village of Pilerne is preparing to host the fourth edition of Matiechem Fest on 2nd October 2025, from 3:00 pm onwards, at the picturesque grounds of St. John the Baptist Church, Pilerne. This much-awaited celebration, organized under the leadership of Fr. Derick Fernandes, Parish Priest, in collaboration with the spirited villagers of Pilerne and the Pilerne Art Socio-Cultural Association (PASCA), promises a colorful blend of heritage, culture, and festivity.
The festival will commence with a soulful Pasoi – a heritage walk, led by three iconic figures: Mahatma Gandhi, whose birth anniversary is celebrated on the day, St. Francis of Assisi, the saint of nature, and St. John the Baptist, patron of the parish. Beginning at the Sankov (Culvert) and culminating at the church, the procession will feature five thematic tableaus celebrating Goa’s floral and fruity abundance: Shevthim, Mogrim, Abolim; Zamblam, Kanddam, Chunnam; Rozam, Zayo-zuyo; Kalgam, Chibud; Ambe and Ponos. These presentations will bring alive the festival’s theme: “Fulam Follam Matiechim Danam” (Flowers and Fruits – Gifts of our Soil).
The float parade will be accompanied by Konkani songs composed by each group, with lively music, dance, and dazzling displays. The evening program promises a feast of cultural delights, including a drum circle by renowned artist Carlos Gonsalves, traditional Fugdi dances, Jhelo making and fruit carving competitions, comedy skits, performances by the villagers of Pilerne, an engaging act by the Jharkhand group, and lighthearted humor by the seminarians. The night will culminate with a high-energy performance by the ever-popular Johnny B Gud with Reza, setting the stage ablaze with music and merriment.
No celebration in Goa is complete without its flavors, and Matiechem Fest 4.0 will feature an irresistible spread of traditional Goan delicacies, lovingly prepared to be enjoyed under the open skies.
This October, the villagers of Pilerne extend a warm invitation to all—come be part of a festival where nature, culture, and community come together in a grand symphony of joy.
