Proposal for Church Group Visits to Museum of Christian Art
The Museum of Christian Art (MoCA), the first of its kind in Asia, has enriched the cultural heritage of Goa since its inaugural on 23rd January 1994 at the Seminary of Rachol, and subsequent relocation to the 17th century Convent of Santa Monica in Old Goa, in 2002.
The Museum was reopened on 23rd May 2022, after an intensive Upgradation Project carried out between 2017-2020, which has led to a complete transformation of the museum space, while also enhancing the visitor\’s experience by creating an inviting and comfortable space, accessible to all.
MoCA showcases a unique collection of Indo-Portuguese Christian Art that was produced by both Indian and European artists, from the 16th to mid-20th centuries. The art objects in the Museum’s collection have been generously donated by various Churches, Chapels, Religious Institutions, families and individuals from Goa and Portugal.
The vision of the Museum of Christian Art is to preserve, nurture and celebrate the unique Indo-Portuguese art and heritage, through publications, workshops, lectures, cultural events, tours, promoting local arts and crafts, outreach programmes amongst other activities. In doing so, among other visitors, our focus has been to reach out to and engage with the Goan community (whether in India or abroad), the heritage and culture of which is represented in the Museum’s collection.
Keeping this in mind, we have prepared an outreach proposal (in attachment) for the Parish Groups and Associations of various Parishes within the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. This proposal contains a brief outline of the type of activities that can be facilitated at MoCA, which have been divided into three categories, along with the group visit guidelines. We have also attached an e-poster along with this email.
