REPORT OF THE XVI MAJOR SUPERIORS MEETING

The XVI Annual Meeting of Major Superiors of Religious Congregations serving in Goa, jointly organized by our Archdiocese and CRI (Goa Unit) was held on 19th January’23 with the overarching Synodal theme “Enlarge the space of your tent” (Is 54:2).  53 Major Superiors and 25 Diocesan officials  journeyed together along with His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão in the beautiful ambience of Pilar Pilgrim Centre. A few joined later. Fr. Eugene D’Silva CSsR conducted the prayer Service followed by a Special Synodal Session- an opportunity for the Major Superiors travelling from various states of India to know the Companions on the Journey , Listen and Interact. A brief summary was later presented to the Cardinal for his consideration by Fr. Clive Telles. Fr. Silvestre D’Souza OCD with much ease and humor kept the gathering in tune. Sr. Gracy Rodrigues FDCC led the congregation to pray Adsumus Sancte Spiritus. On behalf of the CRI, Sr. Bromadine SCC, President of Western Region CRI felicitated His Eminence, Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão for being raised to the rank of the Cardinal. The CRI (Goa Unit) President, Sr. Flory Rodrigues FMCK, then accorded a warm welcome focusing on the need to create concrete structures and processes for collaboration.

Fr. Simiao gave update on the ongoing  Synodal Journey  Fr. Ligourinho briefed all on the upcoming  Walking Pilgrimage. Fr. Glastone Gonsalves frm Bombay Archdiocese threw light on the pressing social issues.  Fr. Allen Noronha SFX presented report on the Legal Cell initiated by   ABE. Fr. Peter Melo Fernandes SFX Bro. Prem SG., Sr Libia SFN moderated the sessions. Fr . Tony Dsouza OFM, Episcopal Vicar for Religious, in his address appealed to all to work in solidarity. His Eminence, Archbishop Filipe Neri  Cardinal Ferrao expressed his Joy and thanked the religious for their varied and rich contribution to the Archdiocese. The vote of Thanks by Sr. Ranjana Carval FS was followed by warm greetings to our beloved Cardinal on the eve of his birthday.

Synodal Journey is on!  All felt that it’s the opportune time to create concrete structures and define processes of collaborative working for joyful communion, participation and mission!
