The Sanctuary of St. Joseph Vaz solemnly celebrated on 5th August 2026 the commemoration of the 349th Anniversary of the Letter of Bondage, in the light of the pastoral theme, “Abide in Me” (Jn. 15:4).
The celebration began with the Rosary of St. Joseph Vaz at 4:15 p.m., followed by the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration. In the homily, centred on the theme “The Meaning of a Life Given to God,” the faithful were invited to reflect on the universal search for meaning and purpose. Drawing from the Gospel of the Rich Young Man (Lk. 18:18-23), it was emphasised that the deepest meaning of life is found in wholehearted surrender to Christ. The Letter of Bondage was presented as a profound “Letter of Surrender,” through which St. Joseph Vaz freely entrusted his entire life to God, discovering the deepest meaning and purpose of his vocation. His total self-offering transformed every hardship into an opportunity for mission, love and sacrifice, echoing the words of St. Paul: “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Gal. 2:20). The faithful were encouraged to discover the true meaning of life by surrendering themselves to God and remaining rooted in Christ, for “apart from me you can do nothing” (Jn. 15:5).
Following the Eucharistic Celebration, special prayers and blessings were invoked upon the men present, and vehicles belonging to the faithful were blessed. The celebration concluded with refreshments, fostering a spirit of communion, fellowship and shared joy among all who had gathered.
