St Thomas Parish Aldona on the occasion of the feast of Christ the King held a special program titled ‘Sonvskrutayecho Utsov‘ to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of a motherland as part of the jubilee of culture. An exhibition was held depicting the traditional occupations of Goa. The exhibition included sale of items associated with the traditional occupations. It was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Fr. Joaquim Fernandes, SVD Episcopal Vicar for the Religious. In his address he appreciated the work done by the Catechetical Apostolate and the Parish Youth under the guidance of the Parish Vicar Fr. Tomas Lobo ably supported by the Asst. Parish Priest Fr. Agnel Simoes. He urged the children to multiply their God gifted talents and carry forward the traditions and culture of Goa. ‘Sweet voices of St. Thomas’ children’s choir presented a choral song ‘Mannik Udentichem’ composed by Fr. Tomas Lobo. The catechism children presented a dance based on the traditional occupations of Goa. Catechist Sandhya Fernandes was the compere for the inaugural function. The climax of the Jubilee of Culture was the Parish Manddo Festival held in the evening coinciding with the Jubilee of Choirs celebrated in our Archdiocese and presented by the different Somudais of the parish. Original compositions of Mando and Dulpods accompanied by the harmonious music showcased the talents of the different somudai members. The perfect attire added colour to the beautiful presentation. Fr. Jose Silveira SJ, Superior of St Britto High School, Mapusa was the Chief Guest. In his address he requested those present to uphold the values and traditions of Goa. It was a treat to witness the blend of art, culture, traditions and community bonding on a common platform. Certificates and tokens were presented to the participants. Earlier, Fr. Tomas Lobo in his welcome address highlighted the reason for organising the event. Present on the occasion was Fr. Mario Leitao Dean of Aldona Deanery and Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira MLA Aldona constituency. PPC Moderator Ronald Victoria proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Jonas Correia and Mrs. Maria DCruz compered the Manddo festival.
