St. Francis Xavier High school Bhatpal Canacona creates history!

St. Francis Xavier High school Bhatpal Canacona U-14 boys handball team emerged as the winners at the Goa State level Handball Championship organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Panjim defeating St. Francis Xavier High School Siolim by 15-11 goals.

As reported to us it is for the first time that a school from Canacona has won the All Goa State Level Handball Championship.

St. Francis Xavier High school Bhatpal Canacona started its journey by playing at the Taluka level and defeating St. Annes Institute Agonda by 8-7 goals in the Taluka level finals.

After emerging as winners at Taluka level they proceeded to play at the District level and defeated Manovikas High School (Salcete Taluka) by 8-7 goals in the district level finals.

Following are the scorers of the State level Finals: Nikeel Ferrao (captain of the team)- 4 goals, Ashvet Gaonkar- 6 goals, , Shrinesh Reddy- 4 goals. Abdul Samad -1 goal.

Sholwin D’costa did excellent goalkeeping in the finals of state level. The playing 7 for the finals were as follows: Nikeel Ferrao, Abdul Samad, Ashvet Gaonkar, Shrinesh Reddy, Sholwin D’costa, Farhan Khan, Parth Gaonkar.

The state level finals were held at Campal ground Panjim and the medal distribution ceremony was done by SSO Anant Sawal.

The team was coached by the schools PE teacher Mast. Nehal Komarpant and supported by the manager of the school Fr. Freddy Lobo.
