THE WORD ALIVE ‘22
Hebrews 4:12 says “For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”.
On November 6, 2022, the Pilerne Sunday Catechetical School hosted an event called \”THE WORD ALIVE \’22\” to highlight the Bible and aid children in learning more about it. The event\’s theme summed up the exact core of God\’s message. Every act and performance echoed the overall concept. The parish priest, Fr. Derick Fernandes, gave an introduction at 10:00 am to kick off the programme, he made reference of the fact that we must pay attention to the things we do in our lives. “He further stated we need to do it in the light of God’s word and teachings of the church. The three judges for the entire competition were then welcomed with potted plants, and the on-stage performance got underway.
‘Chorus of Angels’ was the name of the first performance, which featured the sub-senior catechism students singing in a group (Biblical singing). Two groups participated in the group singing and sang with harmony and synchronization on songs related to the Bible. Next followed a fancy dress performance by the younger group, in which the children appeared as characters from the Bible, such as, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Moses, Ruth, the wise man, and St. Peter.
The next performance was a fancy dress again by the sub-junior group wherein they had to dress up like any character from the Old Testament. These small children were beautifully dressed up in the characters like Sarah, Esther, King David, Bethia, St. Thomas, David the Shepherd boy. Thus, the fancy dress was titled \’Jacob\’s Act\’ (Biblical style). It was very delightful to watch these small kids perform. Simultaneously, \’Hosea\’s pot\’ the off-stage activity i.e pot painting begin with theme given to the children on the spot as \’God\’s creation – Nature\’. The pots were painted amazingly by two participants. The paintings portrayed the beauty of God\’s creation which we need to preserve and take care of. The next off-stage activity turned this unique event even more exciting as the small kids from the junior category played a game called \’Tower of Babel\’ (Loud Dictation) the kids had to shout out the given word given to them from the bible to the other partner on the other side. It was fun to watch these small kids play. Next, \’Zechariah\’ \’s Act\’ (Silent Dictation) was played by the sub-Junior category. Wherein, the participants had to act out the words give to them from the Holy Bible to the other partner on the other side. It was a very tough game by the two groups.
The next off-stage activity \’Brush of Jezreel\’ i.e poster making had lovely and artistic paintings done by two participants from the Sub-senior groups with the theme given to them as \’Mother Mary\’. The children did a fabulous job which made it difficult to judge too.
Lastly, the on-stage act \’Dance of David\’ (Biblical action song) was a divine performance by the Senior group students.
The event ended with a vote of thanks to the judges with a memento given to them, and all the participants were appreciated, for the efforts they put in and also the parents who always encourage their children to participate in various activities. The entire event was organised under the guidance of the Parish Priest Fr. Derick Fernandes. The event ended at 1:00 pm with lunch served for everyone present for the event.
