A workshop on Compression Only Life Support (COLS) was conducted at Our Lady of Candelaria Church, Baina-Vasco, as an important initiative to create awareness and equip parishioners with basic life-saving skills in emergency situations. 45 participants participated in the same.
The workshop was initiated by Mr. Lester DeMello, Chairman of the World Apostolate of Fatima (WAF) Goa and the Indian National Centre, and was organized in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) – Goa Unit. This meaningful initiative, promoted by the World Apostolate of Fatima in the Goa Archdiocese, aimed at empowering the faithful and community members with practical knowledge of emergency response through Compression Only Life Support (COLS) techniques.
The session was conducted by volunteering doctors from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) – Goa Unit, namely:

Dr. Hemant Parsekar, Anaesthesiologist, North Goa
The resource persons explained the importance of immediate action during cases of sudden cardiac arrest and demonstrated the correct method of performing chest compressions. The workshop focused on helping participants understand how prompt intervention, even before professional medical help arrives, can greatly improve the chances of saving a life. The doctors conducted the session in a clear and practical manner, making it easy for all present to understand the essential steps involved in COLS.
The programme was informative, engaging, and highly beneficial for the parish community. It served as a valuable learning opportunity for the faithful, encouraging preparedness, awareness, and a spirit of service towards others in times of need. The parishioners appreciated the initiative and the efforts taken by the organizers and doctors to conduct such a meaningful and life-enriching workshop.
