Parishes across Goa will mark the Solemnity of Our Lady of Assumption and Independence Day on 15th August 2026 with a variety of faith, cultural and community celebrations, bringing parishioners together in the spirit of faith, fellowship and patriotism.
Aldona (Bhag. Tomechi Firgoz): Host to Somudayanchea Ekvottachi Sanz 2026 under the theme “Festam Porbam Vorvim Jezuk Rigun Ravum-ia” starting at 4:00 PM. Festivities will include a traditional sweet, Somudai-wise parade, live music by the A.P.Y. Band, saint fancy dress presentations, fruit/vegetable carving and wild-flower arrangement.
Caranzalem (Our Lady of Rosary Church): Celebrating Nostalgia De Caranzalem 2026 from 3:00 PM onwards in the church compound. The parish youth will lead displays highlighting Goan Catholic traditions (Marriage, Food & Sweets and Music & Culture).
Panjim (Immaculate Conception Church): The Panjim Parish Youth have organized a parish get-together titled Ekvottachi Sanz near the iconic church steps at 3:30 PM, focusing on family-centric games, fitness, and community fellowship.
Raia (Our Lady of Snows Church): Hosting Raikaracho Ekvott at 3:00 PM in the church compound. The village gathering features creative contests like T-Shirt painting, “Wealth out of Waste” crafts, fancy dress, tug-of-war, and traditional treats.
Ilha De Rachol (Our Lady of Gloria Chapel): The parishioners will gather at 3:00 PM sharp on the chapel grounds for a dedicated cultural evening themed “Abide in Me”.
Sao Jose de Areal (Sant Juzechi Firgoz): Marking their ongoing 200 Years of Faith Jubilee (1826–2026), the parish will host a grand Somudai Mela starting at 3:00 PM. The event blends patriotic fervor with cultural tradition, opening with a March Past and Flag Hoisting, followed by traditional folk performances such as Adlo Roce, Adlem Kazar, a tableau on “Arealcho Ganv”, Portuguese dances, and sweet distributions.
Valpoi (Our Lady of Lourdes Church): Organising a Somudai-wise Goan Sweet Making & Presentation Competition at 3:30 PM in the church hall. Teams from all 7 Somudais will present homemade Goan sweets based on the theme “Abide in Me: Share His Sweetness with Everyone”, judged on taste, presentation, and thematic relevance.
Bicholim (Our Lady of Grace Church): Following Holy Mass celebrated at 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, the parish hall will host the Ekvottachi Sanz program at 4:00 PM. Attendees will participate in traditional Goan games while sampling classic delicacies including patoleo, von, and donne.
Usgao (St. Joseph Church): The St. Joseph Parish Youth will lead Somudayancho Mellavo, featuring a morning session at 11:00 AM with a Mollam making competition and catechism tie-breaker, followed by an evening session at 3:30 PM with face painting and a Goan culinary dish showcase.
Ucassaim (St. Elizabeth’s Church): Hosting a morning Farmers’ Market from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the church hall, featuring an exhibition and sale of locally grown fruits, vegetables, and homegrown plants.
Nachinola (Bom Jesus Church): The Bom Jesus Parish Youth invites all parishioners to a special Youth Adoration on Saturday, 15th August 2026, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Bom Jesus Church, Nachinola. Centered on the scripture John 1:29, the evening offers the community a quiet, meaningful hour of prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal in holiness.
St. Joseph Parish Youth: Adding excitement to the weekend, the St. Joseph Parish Youth is hosting a Fishing Competition on Sunday, 16th August 2026, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM at Soncrem ‘Muxher’. The event will feature prizes for the Fastest, Biggest, Smallest, and Highest Catch.
Together, these celebrations reflect Goa’s rich faith, heritage, cultural traditions and national spirit, bringing parish communities together to celebrate the feast and Independence Day as one family.
