Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao to be made a Cardinal.
It is with great pride and Joy that we would like to inform you that Archbishop Filipe Neri António Sebastião di Rosário Ferrão – Archbishop of Goa and Damão (India) has been chosen by Pope Francis to be made a Cardinal. Archbishop of Goa and Daman is one of the 21 Bishops to be chosen to be made Cardinals. The Vatican News website states that Pope Francis will hold a Consistory on Saturday 27 August for the creation of new cardinals.
Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao was born on 20th January, 1953, Corjuem, Aldona. He was ordained Priest on 28th October, 1979 and Bishop on 10th April, 1994. He remained Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman from 1994 to 2004. He was installed Archbishop-Patriarch 21st March, 2004 and appointed Metropolitan on 25th November, 2006. He was elected Chairman of the Western Region Committee for Catechetics on December, 2012 and Chairman of the FABC Office of Education and Faith Formation on January 2016. Presently he is also holding the responsibility as President of Conference of Catholic Bishop\’s of India and member of the Central Committee of FABC since February 2019.
