The Museum of Christian Art (MoCA), Old Goa, received the donation of two exquisite ivory objects—a Pieta and a Crucifix— from the private collection of Dr. Maria Isabel Gama Rose, facilitated by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, Portugal.
The object handover ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. Maria Isabel Carvalho Mendonça Raimundo, Consul General of Portugal in Goa, India, who presented these objects to His Excellency Most Rev. Simião Purificação Fernandes, Auxiliary Bishop of Goa and Daman, who accepted the donation on behalf of MoCA. This generous donation enriches the collection, further preserving the artistic and cultural heritage that MoCA is dedicated to showcasing.
These ivory objects which will be part of MoCA’s permanent display collection shortly, will inspire and educate visitors for years to come.
