Bardez Sadbhavna Dis Celebrated in Anjuna

Bardez Sadbhavna Dis, a grand celebration of togetherness was celebrated at the Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, Anjuna on the occasion of the Sadbhavna Diwas celebrated in the month of August. This programme was organized by Sadbhav in collaboration with St. Michael’s Parish Anjuna, Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, Anjuna and St. Michael’s Convent High School, Vagator. Mr. Silvester D’Souza, the headmaster of Sacred Heart of Jesus High School welcomed the gathering.  Later, Fr. Elvis Fernandes, the convenor of Sadbhav, explained the purpose and objectives of this programme. He said “we have come together to pledge to preserve the spirit of unity in diversity and work for fostering peace, harmony and solidarity”.

The programme began with a beautiful prayer dance radiating harmony and peace performed by the students of Sacred Heart of Jesus High School. Later, the eminent speakers shared their thoughts and wisdom with the audience on some interesting themes. Prof. Savita Kerkar, an esteemed educator, spoke passionately on “Youth Engagement in Promoting Social Solidarity,” emphasizing the role of young people in shaping a harmonious society. Mr. Tamazar Belwadi, an advocate, delivered a compelling speech on “Freedom of Religion and Belief,” highlighting the importance of safeguarding individual rights in a diverse society. Ms. Alisha Da Cunha, another dedicated educator, shared her insights on “Strengthening Peaceful Coexistence in a Multi-Cultural/Religious Society.” She emphasized the need for tolerance and understanding.

The speeches were interspersed with inspiring cultural items. The parish youth of St. Michael’s performed a dance on a Konkani patriotic song specially composed for the occasion by Fr. Noel Menezes, assistant parish priest of St. Michael’s Church, Anjuna. The students of St. Michael’s Convent High School presented a skit entitled ‘Building Bridges,’ which conveyed the powerful message of unity through a touching song, “We Are Unity.” The skit emphasized the importance of overcoming differences to build a stronger nation. Fr. Glen D’Silva, the manager of Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, along with the students and teachers of the school, performed a soulful violin instrumental.

Mr. Taha Haaziq, Secretary of the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, honoured the event as the Chief Guest. Rev. Dr. Hilario Fernandes, Professor of Theology at Pilar Theological Institute, Pilar Goa, was present as the Guest of Honour.

At the valedictory session tokens of appreciation were presented to guests and speakers, while the students who performed at the programme were presented with certificates of participation. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Bardez Sadbhavna Dis was not just a celebration but a reminder of the values that bind us as a nation. The event successfully brought together people from various walks of life, reinforcing the spirit of unity and love for the country.
