Diocesan Centre for Liturgy Announces Formation Courses for 2026–2027

The Diocesan Centre for Liturgy has announced the following courses for the Pastoral Year 2026–2027: Liturgical Animators VII (English, Diocesan Level) and Sevadhormik Sevok Varadant XXVII (Vasco, Deanery Level).

These courses are primarily intended to provide liturgical formation to as many lay faithful as possible. The importance of such formation is highlighted in the published Synthesis of the Feedback of the Consultation in View of Synod 2023–2024, which states, “Awareness seminars by experts in Liturgy for Christ’s faithful are a need of the hour.” It further adds, “A deeper understanding of the Sacraments needs to be given to all, especially children and youth” (p. 2).

The Centre has been offering these courses for the past two decades through various formats, including Residential, Deanery, Parish, and Konkani-English programmes. It is therefore important that the benefits of these courses reach as many people as possible.

Topics to be covered include: Liturgy and My Role in It; the Seven Sacraments (particularly the Eucharist); the Bible and How to Read It; the Liturgical Year and Its Significance in Our Lives; the Role of the Laity in the Church; the Liturgical Calendar; Liturgical Music; Guidelines for Writing Liturgy; Effective Proclamation of the Word; Making Sunday Liturgy Meaningful; Praying the Prayer of the Church; and Understanding Liturgical Books.

Several practical liturgical questions will also be addressed, such as: Should there be Sunday collections and where do they go? Is it necessary to cover one’s head at Mass? How should Holy Communion be received—in the hand or on the tongue? Can feasts be celebrated on a Sunday during the Easter Season? What is the difference between adoration and veneration? Can we venerate Our Lady and the Saints? What are the requirements for Nuptial Masses? These and many other topics will be discussed.

Participants from previous years appreciated the course so much that they strongly recommended adding an extra session.
