On the bright and blessed morning of 2nd May, the long-awaited dream of the faithful of the Housing Board area in Borda came to fruition with the inauguration and blessing of the newly constructed Holy Family Chapel. The solemn and joyous ceremony was led by His Excellency, Most Rev. Simião Purificação Fernandes, Auxiliary Bishop of Goa and Daman.
The Bishop was given a warm and festive welcome by a brass band, after which he unveiled a commemorative plaque, cut the ceremonial ribbon, and opened the main door of the chapel. This marked the official inauguration of a sacred space that stands as a testament to the unwavering faith and perseverance of the local community.
Bishop Simião presided over the Eucharistic Celebration and solemnly blessed the chapel, offering words of encouragement and admiration for the tireless efforts of the parishioners, benefactors, and volunteers who contributed to the realization of this long-cherished vision.

Fr. Franky Fernandes, Fr. Dylon D’Costa, Fr. Luis Coutinho, Fr. Sertório Rodrigues, Fr. Mario Noronha, Fr. Jovial Fernandes, Fr. Mario Souza, Fr. Anthony Pereira, Fr. Jean da Cruz Fernandes, Fr. Marlon Rodrigues, Fr. Polly Lobo, Fr. Melvin Gomes, Fr. Livio Melo, and Fr. Leslie Noronha, among others. Also present were religious sisters and a large gathering of parishioners who came together in celebration and thanksgiving.
The decree of establishment was read by Fr. Romeo Monteiro, and the ceremony commentary was led by Fr. Franky Fernandes. After Holy Communion, the Tabernacle was blessed by the Bishop, adding a sacred seal to the newly consecrated space.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, Rev. Fr. Simon D’Cunha, Chaplain of St. Joaquim Chapel, took the opportunity to offer words of gratitude to all who played a vital role in the journey. Special recognition was given to Rev. Fr. Jovial Fernandes for his relentless dedication and close involvement in every phase of the chapel’s development — from structural planning to interior design.
A heartfelt tribute was also paid to Engineer Pascoal Noronha, whose technical expertise, precise oversight, and unwavering presence at the construction site ensured that the project advanced smoothly and with exceptional quality. His commitment and collaborative spirit were instrumental in bringing the vision of the chapel to life.
Acknowledgement was further extended to Mr. Cipriano De Souza, President of the Holy Family Chapel, for his hands-on involvement in coordinating various works, managing logistics and documentation, and spearheading multiple fundraising initiatives.
The ceremony concluded with the signing of the decree by parishioners, marking their collective acceptance and joy. The Bishop also blessed the newly built priest’s residence, in the presence of all clergy members.
The inauguration of the Holy Family Chapel stands as a powerful symbol of faith, unity, and dedication. It is not just a new building, but a spiritual home for generations to come.
