Raia Legion of Mary Comitium in the Mission of Daman

At the start of the Pastoral Year, 2026-27, the EXCO Team of the Legion of Mary Raia Comitium undertook a mission visit to Daman to promote devotion to Our Lady through the Legion of Mary and explore the possibility of establishing a new Presidium in the region. The visit was rooted in the LOM’s motto, “To Jesus through Mary” and Ad Gentes’ “The Church is missionary by her very nature.” The team met the Mission Superior of Daman, Rev. Fr. Fr Anselmo Dsouza SFX to present the nature, structure and apostolic works of the LOM. It discussed the feasibility of introducing the LOM in parishes under the Mission. The team set its target in the Parish of Chisda with the activities and support of the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Fr. Francisco Pereira Asst. Parish Priest, Rev. Fr Newton Fernandes. Fr Newton Fernandes introduced the team to the parishioners. The team attempted to connect with the parishioners through house-visits, introduced the work of LOM, etc. Prior to the PPC meeting, the EXCO team had a meeting with the Asst. Parish Priest and briefed him about the LOM system: meetings, work and role in the life of Laity. Rev. Fr. Newton extended full support and facilitated the calling of PPC meeting  for wider consultation. The purpose, spirituality and works of LOM were explained to the PPC members. EXCO team addressed queries and shared testimonies of LOM work to them. The emphasis was placed on prayers, promotion of the Rosary, care for the sick, house-visits and seeing Christ in the poorer world. The EXCO team received a positive response from the people as well as Sr. Nevita and Sr Ethel from the SFN congregation who showed keen interest and expressed the willingness to support and encourage the lay faithful to join. The EXCO team also visited the Mission of Sindhona, Dudhani and so on. To conclude, the mission to Daman was an enriching experience for the EXCO team. They went to “promote LOM and found Christ already waiting in the peripheries” as quoted by one of the member.
