The UTOR-VACH (Konknni Povitr Pustok Vachpachi Karyoxalla), a seminar and workshop on reading and proclaiming the Holy Bible in Konkani, was held at Holy Spirit School Hall, Margao, on 19 September 2026. Organised by the Diocesan Centre for Biblical Apostolate (DCBA), Old Goa, in collaboration with the Konkani Daiz Trust, the programme was centred on the theme “Devachem Utor Vachum-ia ani Jiyeum-ia” (Let us read and live the Word of God).
The programme began with a welcome by Fr. Onasis D’Cruz, followed by the enthronement of the Holy Bible and a prayer service. The participants were enriched by talks from Fr. Manuel Gomes, Fr. Alfred Vaz, Fr. Polly Lobo, and Mr. Agnel de Borim, who shared valuable insights into Scripture, Konkani Bible translation, and the ministry of proclaiming God’s Word.
A major focus of the workshop was the art of proclaiming Scripture, highlighting the importance not only of correct pronunciation but also of conveying the meaning, spirit and message of God’s Word with expression and reverence. Participants were divided into smaller groups for practical sessions, giving them an opportunity to practise Konkani Bible reading under the guidance of resource persons.
The programme was smoothly compered by Ms. Ivy and concluded with participant feedback and a vote of thanks by Fr. Myron Barreto, Head of the Konkani Daiz Trust. The gathering was graced by several priests and distinguished personalities.
