ZERO WASTE market creates a buzz – Pilerne
A one of its kind ZERO WASTE Thursday heritage market, was held at St. John the Baptist Church Courtyard, Pilerne and inaugurated by Dr. P. V. Sarmokadam, Member Secretary, Goa Bio-diversity board in the presence of Parish Priest Fr. Derrick Xavier Fernandes, Curators Marius Fernandes and Dr. Gwendolyn De Ornelas and Senior Journalist Prakash Kamat. Dr. Sarmokadam appreciated the over 20 local vendors who displayed numerous homemade products from food, pottery, plants, handicrafts, Art, etc. He encouraged this painstaking initiative and promised all the help necessary to set up a processing plant in the church premises if a suitable space is made available. The venue wore a festive look with people flocking from far and wide and were entertained by local musician Paul Fernandes regaling the crowds with Konkani classics. There was a \’mol\’lam\’ making workshop by Muriel Mascarenhas, game stalls, crèche, etc. The curators handed over the market to the Pilerne Arts Socio Sports and Cultural Association which will be held every Thursday from 4pm to 8pm. The curator added that “ZERO WASTE is not just a mere slogan for us but a commitment that this heritage market will be hundred percent ZERO WASTE on 1st January 2023 and what a great way to bring in the New Year by Pilernkars leading from the front”.
