The St. Pius School community joyfully observed the Season of Creation through prayer, reflection, creativity and action, with the theme “Living Waters.”
Beginning on 1 September, the morning assemblies focused on the theme, followed by five minutes of meditation. These moments encouraged students to reflect on the beauty of creation and their responsibility to care for our common home.
On 21 September, students participated in a creative activity using natural and locally available materials such as coconut shells, coconut leaves and bamboo. They transformed these into useful articles including baskets, hats, purses and vases. The activity encouraged creativity while promoting traditional Goan skills, reuse of natural resources and environmental awareness. An ecology quiz competition was also conducted to further enrich students’ knowledge.
The highlight of the observance was the Eucharistic Celebration on 22 September, with the theme “They shall beat the swords into ploughshares.” Fr. Heston Ferrao, Priest of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman and Secretary of the Commission for Ecology, was the main celebrant.
In his reflection, Fr. Heston invited the students to view creation as one family, reminding them to respect and care for every form of life. His memorable message, “CPR—Care, Protect and Respect” for Mother Earth, emphasised that each person has a role to play in restoring and protecting our planet.
The celebration concluded with teachers sharing traditional Goan sweets with the students and staff, adding a joyful spirit of fellowship to the occasion.
The Season of Creation was a meaningful journey that encouraged the St. Pius community to pray, reflect, appreciate and act responsibly. It reminded the students that every small act of care can contribute to the healing and renewal of our common home.
