Carmelites Begin Formative Year 2026–2027

Eight young seminarians of the Karnataka-Goa Province of the Carmelites were formally inducted into the stage of Postulancy for the Formation Year 2026–2027 on Sunday, 7 June 2026, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, at the Carmelite Monastery, Margao.

The Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by Fr John Sequeira OCD, Provincial Superior of the Karnataka-Goa Province. He was joined by Fr Silvestre D’Souza OCD, Provincial Councillor, Fr Marlon Rodrigues OCD, Superior of the Carmelite Monastery, Margao,   Fr Jeevan Tauro OCD, Director of the Postulants, and other Carmelite priests.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr Sequeira fondly recalled his own novitiate formation at the Margao Monastery forty-two years ago and reflected on how those formative years had shaped his life and vocation. Encouraging the postulants to persevere with courage and fidelity, he reminded them that God’s call is a precious gift that demands generosity and commitment.

Quoting Kahlil Gibran, Fr Sequeira also addressed the parents, urging them not to be possessive of their children when God calls them to serve in His vineyard. He invited the wider Carmelite community and the faithful to regard these eight postulants as their own sons, supporting them with love, encouragement, and prayer throughout their formation journey.

Fr Marlon Rodrigues OCD, introduced the eight postulants to the congregation and warmly welcomed them into this new phase of Carmelite formation.
