Unfolding Nature in our Backyards- Origami Habitat Workshop at MoCA
On 22nd October, participants both young and old came together to celebrate nature through art at the Museum of Christian Art (MocA). In this Kids at MoCA event, participants took home a piece of Goa’s wilderness in a two-part art workshop.
In the beginning, a butterfly walk by the Mandovi river was hosted by the Flora Project Goa. Spending time observing by the riverbed, everyone was soon acquainted with the different species of butterflies, birds and even fungi that could be found by the riverside. With the vibrant images of butterflies, flowers, and the mangroves fresh in everyone’s minds, their ideas soon took shape in the origami habitat workshop that followed.
Inspired by the variety of butterflies near the museum, each participant learned to fold origami butterflies in different colours and sizes. Each participant created their own unique diorama, a 3D miniature display made from recycled cardboard, fabric, and collage. Nestled in the crafted foliage, the butterflies found a home alongside origami cranes and frogs too! Each creation was enriched by the observations and stories shared by all the participants.
